Designer Prabal Gurung Dishes It All!
MyFDB has been following the career of designer, Prabal Gurung for a long time, so we were super excited at the opportunity to get acquainted with him a little better. Gurung is known for sleek feminine gowns that have been worn by everyone from Zoe Saldana to Michelle Obama. Given Gurung’s pieces have the unique of ability to flatter women generations apart, we felt compelled to create the following questions to help us dive into his brilliant mind.
If you could be any trend from the 60′s through the 90′s what would it be and why?
A simple shift dress. If done right it somehow never goes out of style.
Since you’re so active online (yes, we see your tweets;), what are some of your favorite fashion sites/blogs?
I really enjoy the content on bryanboy, Jak & Jil, Style File, Fashionista, Ted, LOVE, the Dalai Lama on Twitter and of course MyFDB.
When it comes to your wardrobe, name one piece of clothing you refuse to part with.
My white v-neck tees. They’re simply too comfortable and too easy to throw on to part with.
If you could collaborate with anyone (living or deceased), who would it be and why?
PG: Coco Chanel for her sheer brilliance and to even for just a few moments be in her presence and exposed to her design process. Also, Zaha Hadid. She is perhaps the most daring, gutsy and exciting architect. Her vision is so singular and awe inspiring. My dream is to have her design my storefront. To collaborate with her on anything would be incredible.
As a designer, what has been your proudest moment so far?
I would have to say my proudest moment was seeing the WWD cover after my first presentation. I was shocked, in disbelief, incredibly emotional and more motivated than I’ve ever been. I still get the chills when I see it today.
What advice do you have for aspiring fashion industry hopefuls?
Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t. There is always a way to follow your dreams no matter how long it takes to get there.
Now let’s have some fun….QUICK, Word Association time! What’s the first thing to pop into your head when you hear:
Model Crush : Natasha Poly
Orange : Spring 2011
September : Exciting
MTV : Yawn
Ocean : Life
Twitter : Fun
Giraffe : Graceful
Thanks for the great answers Prabal! We can’t wait to view your collection this Saturday at Fashion Week! Also, to learn more about Prabal Gurung visit his official website.
