Behind The Runway At Fashion Week
Since you’ve been following team MyFDB as we navigate the trenches at fashion week, I wanted to give you an exclusive look at what it’s like to go behind the runway. As if the front of the house isn’t crazy enough, anyone who braves backstage will be dodging camera crews, models, makeup artists, and more. The only way to describe the scene is organized chaos. I was able to get a glimpse of the madness myself when I visited the hair and makeup room before the Farah Angsana show.
Models and makeup artists were crowded together on the opposite sides of the room. Hair stylists swiftly worked to create fanciful buns to gracefully lie atop each model’s head. Makeup artists were following their face sheet to make each model’s makeup look cohesive. While there, reporters and photographers were snapping pictures and documenting all the excitement.
The models get dressed in another area where the designer’s collection is organized on rolling racks. Each model is given a dresser who helps get her in and out of the garments during the show’s quick changes. A hairstylist and makeup artist are also backstage to provide touchups before the girls hit the runway.
Once a show is over the makeup and hair team pack their tools and head to their next destination, while the models disperse. The prized collection is then placed into garment bags and security escorts the racks out to their according truck. The clothes are protected like Fort Knox gold…after all a designer’s collection is considered a work of art!
