Burberry’s Piccadilly Plaid Circus
Now, I’m a huge Burberry Prorsum fan, but I’m not exactly a big plaid fan (aside from Burberry’s signature plaid of course), so when I saw that the brand’s latest collection was plaid to the max, I was a little concerned and partially intrigued. According to WWD, designer, Christopher Bailey “was thinking of Jean Shrimpton, coat dressing, and the idea of matching your bag to your coat.” That explains the super matchy-matchy feeling I got with the collection. I did like some of the black and white plaid prints, but otherwise, colored plaid has never been a favorite of mine.
What I really loved about the fall 2011 collection were all the bright coats! Considering Bailey’s designs for S/S 2011 carried more of a harder feel with spikes and a biker influence, it’s nice to see this collection lighten up- especially for dreary fall/winter seasons! Along with presenting a hue and plaid filled runway show, Burberry also live-streamed and broadcasted the event in London’s Piccadilly Circus, a bustling public outdoor area on the city’s west end that is home to theatres, shopping and loads of entertainment. I’m sure it meant a lot to the London-based brand to have their show presented within their home country.
