Gap Bids Marka Hansen Goodbye!
Yesterday Gap, the brand known for their awesome social media engagement (on sites like Facebook and Twitter) and eco-friendly initiatives, announced that Marka Hansen will step down as the president of Gap North America effective February 4th (this Friday).
According to Gap’s CEO Glenn Murphy, “Marka has been one of Gap’s most passionate champions for 24 years, leaving a strong imprint on the company as a highly-respected leader, talented merchant, and mentor to many.” Marka has been president for the last four years and since then has helped the company grow creatively in terms of products such as the 1969 denim line as well as new looks for retail locations.
Additionally, it was announced today that Art Peck, “the leader responsible for growing the company’s highly-profitable Outlet business for the past three years, will take on the role.” Peck has been with Gap for the last six years. Given that I am a huge Gap fan, it will be interesting to see how the executive changes will affect the brand as a whole…all for the better I hope!
