FOCUS: Fashion’s Future Forecast

Sometimes working in fashion is like being a style genie who predicts the future. Designers work seasons ahead, so manufacturers can make garments in time for store buyers to purchase them in advance for their retail locations. So where do all these designers and buyers flock to mingle? That would be trade events like the Transit shoe show and the FOCUS trade show for new fashions. Both are going on until tomorrow at the California Market Center in Downtown Los Angeles.

MyFDB caught fall looks by some of the brands showing at FOCUS during their runway presentation, but we also wanted to give you a glimpse of the show as a whole. If you’ve never visited a trade show, it’s basically like a shopper’s paradise with a brand’s newest merchandise on display. Each line has its own booth, where you can browse clothing and talk to a sales rep about the collection, textiles used, manufacturing, etc. All super important tidbits to know; because it’s about quality over quantity.

A highlight at the FOCUS show yesterday was their runway trend overview presented by WGSN. Following fashion month, WGSN gathered data from the shows

in each city and reported about their findings. From Calvin Klein in NY to Louis Vuitton in Paris, it was interesting to hear about what colors, fabrics, and furs we can expect to see lots of. For colors it’s all about marigold with a pinch of orange (very rock & roll-esque), plus there’s also going to be more whites (as seen onArizona Muse). When it comes to fabric expect to see more of my personal favorite- color blocking! With furs, it’s going to be all about color, I’m thinking Prabal Gurung had some influence with this trend because colored furs were huge in his NYFW collection.Lastly, if you were wondering…capes are still in and they aren’t going anywhere!
