Target Knocks Off Proenza Schouler
Target is one of those places you can’t help but have a love/hate relationship with. Often times I go in there with a very short list (see a toothbrush, shampoo) and leave with a huge bill and a shopping cart full of items to match. What can I say, they just know how to appeal and get to their consumers…
And now their latest fashion faux pas appeal comes in the form of a knock-off version of Proenza Schouler’s PS1 bag. Now yes, the brand did collaborate with Target for their Go International collection a few years ago; but that didn’t mean designers Jack and Lazaro gave the company the go-ahead to snag the design of the bag the brand is best known for.
According to the New York Times Style section, Shirley Cook, the brand’s CEO had this to say, “So our product is in Target right now, and then this bag comes out…It’s just disappointing, especially from someone we worked with.” Meanwhile, designer Jack wishes Target would stop selling the bag. So what are your thoughts? The PS1 (top) retails for a pricey $1,595 (yowza) while the bottom one by Mossimo retails for $34.99.
Look, I am all for fashion on a budget but when it comes to authenticity and handbags, nothing is better than the real deal…even if your wallet is empty for a bit.
