How To Become A Monarchy Man
Menswear line Monarchy Collection (MNRKY) is making a name for themselves as a purveyor in men’s style. With awesome graphic tee’s, denim, and outerwear the line
is quickly becoming a popular brand in the male marketplace. We wanted to find out the story behind the brand so we talked to John, MNRKY’s Executive Vice President to get the scoop. Please tell us more about your background.
I am a passionate visionary and love fashion that has a bit of an edge to it. Music, art, fitness, surfing and family are what keeps me ticking. My background has been diverse working for companies from Ralph Lauren to Quiksilver (SVP) to Howe (President) and Rock & Republic (EVP). My goal is to make MNRKY a cool but household name.
How did the concept for this brand come to fruition and who is the leading design force behind the line?
MNRKY has a gritty rock and roll aesthetic while still remaining somewhat subtle in styling. Ricky Hendry is the Creative Director and Dax Hall is the Art Director…between the two of them, we have created a collection that is unique to the market.
What sparked the abbreviation “MNRKY”?
MNRKY was a sub-branding element used with Monarchy Collection that we liked but tweaked the lettering as you an see.
What can fans look forward to in the coming season from the brand? Any exciting partnerships or collaborations?
We have partnered up with Nylon mag to launch the “new look”. We have collaborated with Reeve and Zane Carney and their band by producing a music video with them. We call it a fashion slash music video look book. We shot a performance, they wore the new spring collection. The timing was fantastic because Reeve is the star of the Broadway production of Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark as Peter Parker.
Describe the Monarchy man’s style in 10 words or less.
The MNRKY man is an artistic, innovative, independent, edgy, [and a] gritty rock and roller.
How did you decide to align the MNRKY brand with the band Carney?
We thought that the band’s image was the right look for us and fit in the “MNRKY Man” description. In addition, Carney is an up and coming band and we love and want to support the indie music scene.
Lastly, what advice do you have for aspiring fashion industry hopefuls?
If you have a vision and a passion for the industry, keep it simple and you will succeed.
Thanks for the awesome interview John and now for the really exciting part…
