The Little Black List: The Perfect Mix of Both Coasts

Apr 29, 2011 By Vaneza

Whenever I come across a blogger with uber cool style I can’t help but smile and that’s exactly what I did when I discovered our latest Weekend Read, The Little Black List by Tess Pare-Mayer. Her style is the perfect blend of LA’s laid back aethic and NYC’s chic trendiness, and no wonder, the 25 year old is a San Francisco native currently residing in New York City. We got the chance to chat with Tess and even found out what she’s doing this weekend!

How did you decide to start a blog? Are you a full-time blogger or do you have a day job?
I’ve been obsessed with fashion my whole life. Even as a young child?I would get dressed in a “styling” manner, i.e from head to toe, no?detail overlooked. Different colored, or patterned socks paired with?my jellies, neon leotards and swimsuits worn as shirts with acid?washed denim skirts. Stacks of sterling silver and turquoise rings and?cuffs. My mother quotes me when I was four years old “you can dress me in ?it, that doesn’t mean I’m going to stay in it” after she dressed me? for pre-school went to fix my breakfast and I came out in a completely? different outfit. I look at style as an ever-evolving…always? changing process. And I wanted an outlet to share my visions,?personal aesthetic, concepts, perspectives, and love of fashion. The? Little Black List creates a virtual place where fashion oriented?people from anywhere and everywhere in the world can contribute and? participate in my view of fashion.
I also have a day job. I work for a shoe designer, United Nude. I work in their United States Flagship store in NYC. I am [the] retail manager of the brand. A little explanation, my boss and I bring the Dutch brand to the USA. We open their stores, hire their staff, plan their opening, charity, and new product release parties, make sure the store sells, get buzz around the product etc. We basically do EVERY step from A to Z. It’s a lot of work but an incredible job and I really enjoy the people I work with (which is sooooo key).

Describe your personal style in 5 words or less.
Unruly, vintage, distinct, variegated, unique

What’s one trend/or item you can’t get enough of this season?
All the 70’s inspired clothing, accessories and ideals. Long flowing beachy hair with floral headbands, super tall platform wood heels, stacks of huge cuffs, turquoise and coral jewelry, flared jeans. It all reminds me of my mother. Hippie Love!

And lastly, what are you doing this weekend?
This weekend, I’m going to San Francisco and Napa with two of my best girlfriends. We are going to enjoy the beautiful weather, thrift and vintage shop, eat too much Mexican food, visit family (so excited to play with my perfect niece and nephew) and friends, and celebrate my amazing mother’s 60th birthday .

Sounds like a fabulous time! Thanks once again to Tess and for more be sure to check out The Little Black List.
