Bargain Balmain Includes $172 T-shirts
Balmain appears to be to taking over the world, at least they’re trying to with the rollout of Pierre Balmain, their newfound “hip” and “affordable” youthful line. With plans to enter a whopping 700 stores across the globe after its debut in December, the casual collection is made for those who want to look effortlessly chic. The only downside? The price. That effortlessly cool look is going to set you back a pretty penny, pieces start at $172 (for a basic T) and spiral all the way up to $1,291 (for evening wear). These hardly affordable pieces are actually a bargain for those jet-setters who can afford the finer things in life.
The company’s CEO Alain Hivelin told WWD, “We see Pierre Balmain as a new and distinct brand that is inspired by the successes and history of a great house, but offers a look and product that respond to the needs and desires of today’s marketplace. Our goal is to position Pierre Balmain as a new global brand that will be established in all the key international markets.”
Hilvelin has his goals set pretty high as he dreams of opening Pierre Balmain boutiques in all key international cities.
Personally, I like to get my effortlessly chic and casual duds from a vintage shops or lower-end retailers where I don’t have to spend too much effort (or money). Paying $172 for a t-shirt is more than ridiculous, who do they think they are… The Row? Lets not forget to ask, where are these clothes being manufactured? I smell some major retail licensing markup!
