Designer Games: Marc Jacobs Moving To Dior

Aug 22, 2011 By Amy

It looks like our favorite game show is back...The Dior Show! The quest for the fashion house to find a new designer has been a continuing media spectacle. The whole ordeal kind of dropped off the radar for a moment, but now the news is back in a BIG way. Potentially taking the Dior reigns is a surprising and unexpected contender: Marc Jacobs. Apparently, this is more than just a rumor as talks are currently going on in Paris between LVMH and Jacobs’ legal team.

A little background for those just tuning in, Jacobs currently designs for his eponymous line and Louis Vuitton (both owned by LVMH) and his potential move to Dior (also owned by LVMH) would leave a major gap for Louis Vuitton. Already thinking things through, LVMH CEO Bernard Arnault is planning on plucking up Phoebe Philo who currently designs Celine (also owned by LVMH) and transitioning her to Louis Vuittion.

These designer moves will spur some major style shakeups in the industry, Louis Vuitton will most likely become more toned town while we can expect to see Dior sizzle with pizazz from Jacobs. No need for anyone to take over at Celine, as we hear Philo would continue designing for the house should this whole deal go through.

What do we learn from this? Marc Jacobs has a magic touch on fashion and LVMH clearly likes to keep things in the family.
