Porno Chic Carine Roitfeld, Her New Magazine & Oprah!

Sep 29, 2011 By Amy

Leaving Vogue Paris behind is probably one of the smartest things Carine Roitfeld has done. Her styling and editorial mind helped guide the publication for a number of years, but now she’s releasing her so-called “Porno Chic” outlook on the world. She’s already completed a number of styling jobs and collaborations, but news has been released that the icon is in the process of creating a magazine. In an interview conducted by Dazed & Confused co-founder, Jefferson Hack, Roitfeld talked about her plans for the publication and her take on that “Porno Chic” title.

After dishing about her upcoming clothing and cosmetics lines Roitfeld said, “ I am also putting a dream team together to make a magazine. It’s an ambition of mine to make a really iconic magazine that’s fresh and exciting.” Clearly she likes to keep busy.

Hack asked if the mag will be a French publication to which she replied, “No, there is no value in it being in French, it needs to be international and in English. It will be something less frequent than a monthly to make it more iconic, more collectable. I want to make something really beautiful, chic, different… I have to find a new way, so I am dreaming about it and working it out.”

Interestingly enough in a different interview Roitfeld revealed she foresees the publication being quarterly and she’s even taking cues from Oprah.”I could call it Carine Roitfeld, like how Oprah Winfrey does and put me on the cover every month, but I’m not sure if this is what people expect” she proclaimed.

Um…that’s not exactly what we expect, but we’re curious to experience the mag once it releases. If she’s following in Winfrey’s steps, could a fashion talk show be in the works next? I kid…(sort of).

Oh, and about that whole “Porno Chic” thing… Roitfeld responded to Hack with, “In Porno Chic, there is the word chic! And I like that, but I would prefer Erotica Chic. It’s a bit like being a singer, you get given a title by the public – I didn’t choose this title, it was chosen for me.”

Roitfeld is gearing up for her “Erotica Chic” name to become a high fashion brand and if you’re wondering the premise for her interview with Hack? It was to promote Roitfeld’s new book titled, Irreverent. Needless to say, there’s going to be a lot more Carine Roitfeld in all of our lives.
