Sultry songbird Lana del Rey is the campaign model for H&M’s autumn and Christmas advertisements. The always coiffed and glamorous del Rey seemed the flawless fit for the company’s needs. PR manager Chloe Bowers discusses the decision: “We were looking for a style icon and singer to model our autumn/winter 2012-13 collection and Lana Del Rey was the perfect choice. We think she shows our fall fashion in a very inspiring way. The theme of the campaign is a modern and feminine woman with a soft attitude. Curves and waist are important in autumn’s silhouette.” Along with the ad campaign, Lana will be featured in a television ad for the company. A recording of the 1950s classic Blue Velvet will augment the short film ad. The film’s release date is set for September 19^th.

Del Rey looks retro-fabulous in the dusty pink angora sweater and silk micro shorts of the promotional photos. She, of course sports her trademark cat-eye liner and voluminous hair. Donald Schneider, H&M’s creative director told WWD that the ambiance of the fall collection “is very L.A. noir.”

Karl Lagerfeld and Carine Roitfeld  have revisited Chanel’s classic black jacket in a digital exhibition featuring 113 photos of celebrities, personalities, and style icons. Each photo has a special character in the unique way the wearer styles the jacket. Alice Dellal roughens hers up with a studded collar, net undershirt and leather vest. Julia Restoin Roitfeld cinches her jacket tightly and pairs it with a graceful floral headdress. Uma Thurman looks like a 1930s screen siren with her voluminous curls and ruffled blouse and, contrastingly, Kanye West looks modern and polished, and quite menswear, in the exact same garment. Jewelry designer Waris Ahluwalia’s jacket fits like a glove and he accessorizes it with a glittering feather pin. The diversity of the subjects and their variant styling shows how classic Chanel garments can be used creatively to fit the wearer. Stunning portraits and an expression of timelessness that crosses genders, generations, and social categories, this digital exhibition is definitely worth perusing.

Roberto Cavalli’s adorable childrenswear line brings chic style to a whole new age group. The aesthetic of the brand shines through in the usage of leopard print elements, striking dresses, and embroidery. The children look like mini, more playful versions of the ideal Cavalli man and woman. The brand stated, “the young wardrobe is full of joy and optimism with a luxury designer essence.”

Although the garments are definitely polished, they still look fun and comfortable enough to allow for kids to be kids. It is pleasing that Cavalli seems to put a great deal of consideration into these childrenswear designs and the attention to detail is reflected in the effortless appeal of these garments. The leopard trim on denim pieces such jeans, shorts, and jacket, is too cute to be ignored and the print on several pieces is so sophisticated but works shockingly well on some delightfully cute little girls. Cavalli has ensured that the tikes that prance around in his childrenswear will surely be the talk of the playground.

H&M is proudly promoting environmentally conscious fashion with the release of it’s Conscious Collection’s Exclusive Glamour Collection. This capsule collection, modeled by Constance Jablonski, features vivid garments- mostly dresses for day and evening. The vibrant colors and opulent fabrics undoubtedly have the look of a luxury label but with earth friendly manufacturing processes. The environmental aspects of the garments include compositions of organic cotton and hemp as well as recycled polyester.

            The Exclusive Glamour Collection, which was inspired by the trends of the red carpet, has already returned to the red carpet, as it seems. A statement from H&M confirmed that celebrities are already big fans of the collection: “The collection has already been seen on the red carpet. Amanda Seyfried wore the blue tuxedo blazer and shorts at a London premiere, Oscar nominee Viola Davis has been seen in the hot-pink sleeveless top and skirt and Kristin Davis wore the apple green embroidered dress to a Vanity Fair event. Michelle Williams wore an H&M custom-made gold-draped organic cotton bodice with a satin-backed crepe trumpet skirt at this year’s BAFTAs in London. A top and skirt inspired by Michelle’s exclusive gown will be available in selected H&M stores when the Exclusive Conscious collection is launched.”

This collection shows the wonderful possibilities of sustainable fashion without sacrificing aesthetics. The Exclusive Glamour Collection will be available in about 100 H&M stores worldwide from April 12^th.

This month, Vogue China will be featuring a editorial full of retro American glam. The editorial called “We Go Together” (obviously a reference to the movie, Grease) displays beautifully the greaser subculture which comprised a very artistically rebellious part of 1950s Americana. Photographer Lincoln Pilcher manages to capture the photos with a stylistic sensibility of the past but maintains a fresh and varied aesthetic for each photo. The narrative of the photo set depicts a love triangle between the innocent 50s darling, which we can only guess by the iconic hairstyle was inspired by the character “Sandy” in Grease. The other vintageous vixen was evidently inspired by “Rizzo-” the token bad girl of Grease. And finally, the James Dean-esque greaser bad boy inspired by the character of Danny completes the triumvirate. Together the colorful gals and their suave greaser guy create an interesting story that unfolds in the editorial.

“We Go Together” is complemented by iconic garments that designers today have derived from a similar inspiration source as the shoot- classic lines of retro Americana. Prada, Alexander Wang, Jason Wu, Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein, and Dolce & Gabbana are all featured with their elegant pieces styled to perfection to emulate 50s allure.

Although most of the editorial is set in familiar territory for a 50s inspired shoot (i.e. a diner, a vintage car) they manage to not feel familiar. Stimulating posing and camera angles add the refreshing nature of the photos and to their charming success. This March issue editorial is assuredly a brilliant way to become inspired for the summer season lurking just around the corner. These 1950s ensembles definitely give a craving for some vivacious vintage summertime clothes.

In wake of the backlash to his S/S 2012 couture collection show, a self-professed tribute to the late Amy Winehouse, it’s nice to see Jean Paul Gaultier getting some positive press. Diet Coke, which has come to be the most fashionable brand of sodapop, has hailed Gaultier as the new Creative Director to work his magic on a variety of projects this year. Picking up where Karl Lagerfeld left off, Gaultier will design a series of Diet Coke bottles and cans, which we suspect will harness the same sexy and risqué aesthetic which has made him an icon. Wouldn’t it be just to awesome to bare if the designs incorporated his most famous signature, the infamous cone-shaped bra from Madonna’s Blonde Ambition tour?

To celebrate the launch of the partnership, Gaultier has starred in three short films all entitled “The Night & Day Serial Designer”. The Serial Designer Series features a guest appearance in each film where he styles a Diet Coke puppet girl (yes, seriously) in his designs. Each film heroes one of the Diet Coke girls and brings to life their personality in a humorously-Gaultier fashion. The first two videos have launched and can be watched below, the third will be released tomorrow. Tiffany & Co, a jewelry brand which has become synonymous with romance wrapped in a Tiffany blue box, has launched a new ‘What Makes Love True’ campaign. For true love captured in pictures, the famous jewelry brand enlisted the two of the most famous street style photographers, who also happen to be head-over-heels in love with each other, The Satorialist‘s Scott Schuman and Garance Doré. One of fashion’s favorite couples, the two constantly profess their love and adoration for one another and never miss the opportunity to collaborate.

For the campaign, the two photographers curated a collection of pictures that capture couples in moments of affection and embrace, as well as relationship anecdotes in the form of post-it notes addressed to lovers, couple’s shoes situated next to each other, and even their very own monogrammed mugs side-by-side. The photographs were then filtered through the exceedingly popular iPhone app, Instagram.

“I love this project Scott and I did for Tiffany. Mostly because I love working with Scott, but also because it’s just so romantic: the idea was to photograph couples during moments that evoked the love of Tiffany.” gushed Doré on her blog.

“It was fun thinking about the small, tender gestures that a couple offers to each other– which are really the fuel that keeps a relationship special.” explained Schuman on The Sartorialist. “ I love that Garance makes my oatmeal for me in the morning while I run out to get our coffee.  They’re both just simple small acts but they make life happy.”

In true fashion of both photographers, the two don’t exactly opt for the average mere mortals of the world for these images, but rather those with exceptional genetic codes. For example one photograph by Schuman shows stunning actress Piper Perabo, pictured with her equally handsome (and well dressed) boyfriend. The caption sweetly reads, “What I love most about you is your ability to make me laugh.”

However, beginning January 23rd, Tiffany is inviting anyone to upload their personal photographs of love using a special filter app, which will be available on iTunes, and to tweet said photographs with the hashtag #truelovepictures. The campaign’s clever juncture coincides with the weeks leading up to the most lovey-dovey of all holidays, Valentine’s Day.

Upon first glance at Jasmine Tookes, you’d never guess she hails from sunny Southern California’s Huntington Beach. This week’s Model Monday is a runway regular who’s currently surfing some major ad campaign waves. She gained notariety after Bruce Weber captured her unique look for Abercrombie and now she’s practically everywhere. Currently you can find her all over magazines and billboards as the face of Ugg’s F/W ad campaign. Tookes makes their shoes (which have deviated away from the infamous boot) look good!

What we personally love about Tookes in the office is that she’s an active tweeter and we enjoy following her modeling adventures and living vicariously through her busy, yet incredible life. How amazing does she look in the blue Oscar de la Renta gown she tweeted out?
