Prabal Gurung worn by Mrs. O

By: amy

A big congratulations goes out to Prabal Gurung for getting his stylish wear on our First Lady, Michelle Obama. Yesterday she wore a dress by Gurung when she officially handed over her inauguration gown, designed by Jason Wu, to the Smithsonian. Typically a member of the fashion elite would wear a dress by the designer when going to an event in support of them, but leave it to the First Lady to break the rules and share the spotlight with fresh talent. Prabal is no stranger to high-profile clients, but Mrs. Obama puts him into a mainstream realm. Oh and if you forgot our NYFW contest winners did get tickets to his Spring 2010 show at the tents, where Zoe Saldana was front row.

Gurung has literally been on cloud 9 over all the positive attention he's received by getting the Mrs. O stamp of approval. Yesterday he tweeted the above pics and said: "Y'all dreams do come true. First Lady Mrs. O in my spring 2010 dress. I am so happy."

If you're craving more of Gurung's collections visit his website for more looks.

Zoe’s purple reign on the red carpet

By: amy

The 82nd Annual Academy Awards literally took Hollywood by storm this past weekend; and luckily for us all it didn't rain on the red carpet parade. Although, it may have been the dreary weather that prompted Hollywood's A-list to play it safe when selecting an Oscar gown. The night's trends included classic black dresses, ruffles, and champagne flavored gowns. While glamorous, all were lacking the risk-taking haute couture influence the fashion realm craves.

Of course leave it to our favorite starlet Zoe Saldana and her stylist Petra Flannery to deliver big with a Givenchy Haute Couture gown and shoes direct from Riccardo Tisci's Spring 2010 collection.

The dress was chosen just a few days before the awards. When InStyle asked Saldana what her Oscar fashion plans were at the Essence Black Women in Hollywood luncheon on March 4, she said she had yet to decide. She told InStyle, "My stylist Petra Flannery knows me more than I know myself when it comes to fashion. She always puts me in something that fits my personality and my mood, and she knows I go insane if I’m uncomfortable. Plus she wants me to look extra special.”

I'd say Flannery got it right as the Givenchy gown's sparkle, volume and shine perfectly accompanied Saldana's radiant personality. For some extra dazzle a whopping 80-carat amethyst and diamond inlay ring coupled with 20-carat bronzed platinum diamond drop earings from Lorraine Schwartz complimented the look.

Zoe proves that you don't have to be nominated to win big on the red carpet. Her look has already received tons of attention with praise from People, The Los Angeles Times, Telegraph UK, and Elle.

Ebay winner transformed into fashion royalty

By: amy

A big congratulations to Erik for being the winner of our NYFW EBay contest! His winning bid will go directly to charity and in return he got treated like fashion royalty with a makeover from wardrobe stylist Blair, a visit to Ricardo Rojas, and a trip to the tents for Prabal Gurung's runway show. Erik also received access to our exclusive launch party where he mingled and chatted it up with Zoe Saldana.

We asked Erik to share some the day's highlights with us:

"I was dressed by my personal stylist Blair, who put together the perfect outfit, then I was off to the Ricardo Rojas salon where I was pampered with a relaxing oxygen facial. Then I arrived in style at the Prabal Gurung Fashion show, which was absolutely amazing! The MyFDB launch party was completely off the hook!! I was introduced to many vibrant personalities from the world [of] fashion.

Meeting Zoe Saldana was definitely the highlight of my night!! Zoe was just as charming and lovely as I had expected! I felt totally relaxed as we talked and took pictures together!"

Thanks for sharing Erik and we're so glad you had an awesome time! For those that didn't win we'll have more contests coming up; so stay tuned for your chance to win some amazing swag.

NYFW winner Adara met Zoe Saldana and hit the runway!

By: amy

Our New York Fashion Week contest was such a hit and we thank everyone that entered, but there could only be one online winner and that was the lovely Adara! We're so glad she won and her energy radiated throughout her fashion adventures from the Prabal Gurung runway show to meeting her inspiration Zoe Saldana. MyFDB got Adara ready for the day's events by hooking her up with renowned stylist Blair, who helped her put together an A-list look and then whisked her over to Ricardo Rojas studio for hair (and we mean HAIR) and makeup.

The beautiful Adara was sweet enough to share her personal experience with us and of course we had to pass it along to all of our readers:

"Prabal's show was so fun, it was my first fashion show ever! His clothes are absolutely beautiful and wearable. My favorites were this cream strapless dress with ostrich feather detail and a black and red, one shouldered dress with this incredible pleating along the bust. It's amazing how much he's done in just a year or so, and you could tell how anticipated his collection was. There were so many buyers there and Anna Wintour herself came to watch, which is pretty exciting.

Meeting Zoe was incredible! I'm not really the type of person to freak out over celebrities, but I have admired her and her career since I was 12, so to meet her in person was totally surreal. We drove over to her hotel around 8 and I was shaking the whole time. My friend Ezra was with me and he kept talking but I didn't hear half of what he was saying. Kevin, Ezra and I waited in the lobby for her to come down and I was so nervous and excited. Zoe was the nicest person, everything I expected her to be and more. She has so much personality and is so bouncy and excited. When she talked about Prabal you could tell how proud of him she was, as well as Keith (who was also so nice) [MyFDB's CEO] and how well MyFDB is doing. She said that when he started it was just him and two computers in the basement and now here he was at fashion week having this huge launch. The thing that I will hold closest to me is a piece of advice Zoe gave me as a young actor-model, and that was to trust myself and make conscious choices about the kind of work I want to do, even if it means turning things down. She was so fun and sweet, I wish she could just take me with her wherever she went : )

To get a sense of the excitement here's a short video of Adara meeting Zoe shot by her friend Ezra.

Probably the most pleasant surprise was how awesome Kevin Mills, the COO of MyFDB, is. I know how busy he was getting everything ready for the launch that day but he spent so much time with us. We ended up having some pretty amazing conversations about the business and following your passions and Zoe of course : ) I never once felt like I was being pitched to, we were just talking and laughing like normal people. That is so rare in this industry, and I think it really says a lot about the company.

Thank you so much MyFDB, I can't even properly explain how much this day meant to me. Everyone should keep both eyes on this company. Its made up of some truly genuine people and I can only see it doing bigger and better things in the future!"

Awe!! Thank YOU Adara and we wish you the best in your future endeavors!

Don't feel bad if you didn't win because new contests will be announced soon. Zoe can't be the prize every time, but we will have some treats coming up!

If the party gets any bigger, we’ll have to take to the streets.

By: Editor

Just days before the MyFDB launch party, and we ran out of room.  Maybe it's because we have Zoe Saldana, one of the biggest names in Hollywood hosting the event.  It could be that NY's Hottest DJ (and I do mean HOT), DJ Sky Nellor will be in the booth, keeping you on the floor.  Or, it could be the RSVP list of celebrities and Fashion Royalty.  Whatever the reason, the exclusive launch party had to move to accommodate our people.

The MyFDB launch party is now taking place at the SL, in the Meatpacking District between 9th and 10th Ave.  And if this thing gets any bigger, it will have to go to the streets.  So, while I can't promise you will get in, this will be THE party to attend.  Whether you want to sip cocktails in the front or party in the back is up to you. Either way, we plan to accommodate you.
