This month, Vogue China will be featuring a editorial full of retro American glam. The editorial called “We Go Together” (obviously a reference to the movie, Grease) displays beautifully the greaser subculture which comprised a very artistically rebellious part of 1950s Americana. Photographer Lincoln Pilcher manages to capture the photos with a stylistic sensibility of the past but maintains a fresh and varied aesthetic for each photo. The narrative of the photo set depicts a love triangle between the innocent 50s darling, which we can only guess by the iconic hairstyle was inspired by the character “Sandy” in Grease. The other vintageous vixen was evidently inspired by “Rizzo-” the token bad girl of Grease. And finally, the James Dean-esque greaser bad boy inspired by the character of Danny completes the triumvirate. Together the colorful gals and their suave greaser guy create an interesting story that unfolds in the editorial.

“We Go Together” is complemented by iconic garments that designers today have derived from a similar inspiration source as the shoot- classic lines of retro Americana. Prada, Alexander Wang, Jason Wu, Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein, and Dolce & Gabbana are all featured with their elegant pieces styled to perfection to emulate 50s allure.

Although most of the editorial is set in familiar territory for a 50s inspired shoot (i.e. a diner, a vintage car) they manage to not feel familiar. Stimulating posing and camera angles add the refreshing nature of the photos and to their charming success. This March issue editorial is assuredly a brilliant way to become inspired for the summer season lurking just around the corner. These 1950s ensembles definitely give a craving for some vivacious vintage summertime clothes.

To sum up the looks, there’s a shirt with an abstract illustration of Rihanna’s face, two pair of jeans (one dark, one light), a rockin’ motorcycle jacket, and of course, a logo tee. Oh and let’s not forget the sexy little lace number, a navy blue bra and panty set that I’m sure ladies would like to have in their Christmas stocking. The pieces, which were made public today, will be in stores in time for holiday shoppers.

The question is, given Emporior Armani’s high price points, will Rihanna fans and customers shell out big bucks for the capsule collection? Or perhaps, they’ll be smart and wait until after Christmas to purchase the goods, which will most likely end up on sale? Would you purchase any of the items below?

While we love modeling trio Mariacarla Boscono, Natasha Poly, and Karen Elson we don’t love how much Photoshop work went into the after effects on these images by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. The ad campaign is whimsical and beautiful, but it’s hard support the images after seeing the behind-the-scenes coverage.

Juicy did a fine job casting Raquel Zimmermann, the problem is we’re more excited by her blond hair then we are the plaid clothing. Hiring Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin as photographers on the shoot didn’t save them either. We’re hoping next season Juicy brings us something a little more creative than just a pretty model in front of a wind machine.

Denim is one of those staple pieces that should be easy to feature since it’s worn year round, well 7 For All Man Kind missed the memo on that. The denim brand cast big time models Angela Lindvall and Sam Webb to be shot by photog duo Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. Too bad they selected shots that all feel the same, no variety or excitement in the campaign at all. The only good aspect is the natural lighting, which is always a win in our book.

Valentino

Valentino’s ads aren’t bad, but we don’t find them super exciting either…they lie somewhere in between. The problem seems to be with the dark shadows and light colored clothing. Don’t get us wrong, we like David Sims‘ photography, we’re just not fans of how the garments are being displayed in some of the shots. Call us crazy, but in order to want to buy clothes we need to see them.

All of the tantalizing images were captured by photographer Steven Meisel, while stylist Charlotte Pilcher takes responsibility for the hot attire. As for the perfect bedroom hair? We can thank hair stylist Guido Palau for that. Of course, wherever we find Palau’s work, Pat McGrath‘s makeup artistry is right around the corner. If you can manage to peel your eyes away from the Choos, you’ll realize the brand also makes handbags, which are strategically placed in many of their ad campaign shots.

Time to add a few more items to the “currently coveted fashions will someone please buy them for me?” wish list!

The brand said of the partnership, “Lindsay is a beautiful, highly acclaimed actress and model. We will be able to create unique images: Refined and luxurious, but also full of sensuality.” They aren’t kidding about that “sensuality” either. In their current fall 2011 ad campaign a model is completely bare with the exception of a skull motif covering up her privates. I’m sure we can all picture Lohan in that provocative role.

Considering Lohan’s appearance at Cynthia Rowley’s NYFW show last week got a lot of talk, maybe the young designer is on to something? Although, I don’t think getting attention for your clothes by having some sad celebrity as the face of your brand makes me what to purchase anything from your collection. Plein’s new collection which Lohan will be the face of debuts this Saturday during Milan Fashion Week and we hear she’ll be front row (of course). Let the media circus ensue!

We didn’t mean get Rihanna’s “Umbrella” stuck in your head, but after hearing about beautiful Malgosia Bela‘s work you might want to change the lyrics to include her name. This Polish model (and actress) hit the runway in 1998 and has been landing campaigns and editorial shoots ever since, hence why she’s this week’s Model Monday feature.

This past spring/summer you couldn’t flip through a magazine without seeing Bela in Chloe, Stella McCartney, and Nina Ricci ad campaigns. Kudos to her for being such an accomplished model and a mom (yes, she has a 5-year-old) in her thirties. Bela continues to pursue acting and actually lives in Los Angeles…hmm, maybe we’ll run into her one day?

The model also has a magic touch when it comes to editorial shoots, as she’s frequently shot for Vogues around the globe– like this recent Vogue Espana cover.

Although, one of her most stand out shoots was by Tim Burton for Harper’s Bazaar back in October 2009.

After featuring 1o-year old model Thylane Lena-Rose Blondeau and the controversy surrounding her “risque” modeling photos, we came across French lingerie line Jours Aprčs Lunes. The company’s catching media attention by putting tiny tots in little clothing. This new crop of young models appears to just be having fun playing with makeup whilst hanging out in the brand’s new “loungerie”. The loungerie isn’t sexual and the ads do not appear suggestive, but is it okay to be exposing young girls to these kinds of images?

Personally, I think it’s how you look at it, the girls are just having fun and the images aren’t meant to suggest anything otherwise and the clothing appears age appropriate. It’s not like these girls are hanging out on the street, they’re in their own bedroom. Plus, who didn’t play with makeup when they were younger?

Ever since Sarah Burton has taken the reigns as creative director at Alexander McQueen after the designer‘s passing, the high fashion house has had new life breathed into it. Their latest ad campaign follows in the footsteps of McQueen, but also carries some new earth shaking appeal. The image above might make you think Raquel Zimmermann has superpowers or is an angel based on the way light glows around her. Photographed by David Sims, these images make you wonder if there’s some revolutionary event in the works…

See the similarities? It’s like stylist Jennifer Eymčre got a little lazy and said, “Eh, let’s just put a shirt on her…”
