Fire-eyed glamour, flowery fetes, and Parisian chic are themes we’re used to seeing from Christian Dior Couture and their former creative director John Galliano, but their newest collection sans Galliano left the fashion crowd scratching their heads. Taking the reigns over designing the collection was Bill Gaytten, Galliano’s former assistant (now studio director), and assistant Susanna Venegas. Surprisingly neither of these designer names have been on anyones lips as potential creative directors for the brand.

Gaytten took some risks with flamboyant prints and shapes along with some exuberantly large dresses- especially Karlie Kloss‘ closing number above. The couture looks clearly have a much more youthful look, but that’s not always a good thing; think about the mature audience would potentially wear the pieces, I don’t think they want to dress like Katy Perry.

The collection was far too Galliano influenced, an aesthetic the label and its followers may be wanting to do away with…perhaps that’s why they haven’t been mentioned as replacements? It’s clearly time for something new that doesn’t fall along the lines of a modern couture circus.

I suppose this is a sufficient showing until house can get itself together, but why should a high fashion luxury brand even have an interim collection?! Shouldn’t this designer game be over already?

Knock-Knock? Who’s there? Dior! Dior who? Dior-Do you wanna be our new designer? Sorry Dior, I’m too busy with my own career.

Okay, that’s not exactly how the conversation when down between famed designer Azzedine Alaia and fashion house Dior. The luxe label knocked on the unexpected door of Alaia and approached him about replacing the infamous John Galliano and creating a new chapter for the Dior brand. Flattered, but not interested Alaia immediately turned down the opportunity.

Given that Alaia was not on the Dior show wheel of suspected replacements this brings up some interesting theories regarding Dior’s replacement. Financial Times reporter Vanessa Friedman says it best with, “this makes me wonder if perhaps the group has some interesting plans to change the way it does business up its sleeve, and will use the new designer as an excuse to do so. If so, it would be a revolution that would have an enormous ripple effect on the whole fashion industry. My guess is other brands would immediately fall in behind; everyone is looking for a reason to change and slow down, but everyone is scared to be the brand that sticks its neck out.”

Change is good, but how much change are they planning and which designer is going to help Dior out of its rut? Looks like the Dior show continues and we’ll have stay tuned.

When I was a kid I stayed pretty fashionable with stirrup pants, scrunchies, denim everything and the oh so coveted hand-me-down goods. I definitely didn’t wear any designer duds and only cared about clothes from those wannabe teen stores (Limited Too or 5-7-9 ring a bell?). Too bad these days the industry is being overloaded with designer kid’s fashions. From Dior bottles to kids in couture, you’d never think the recession hit the kiddie market. I bet if I heard the word “Burberry” when I was a kid, I probably would have thought it was an actual berry.

Nowadays a new generation of kids are keeping themselves well-versed in style. Just look at this pint-sized model on the cover of Vogue Enfants…Is it just me, or does she look like she’s full of attitude? I bet that girl’s a nightmare to babysit…better watch where you point that sippy cup missy!

Moving onto kids that look more exciting to play with…this “En Piste | En Rythme | A Vive Allure” editorial stays down to earth with kids wearing good ‘ol Levis and Diesel. Now that’s how you stay stylish on the playground!

The first short captures Moss drinking and flirting it up with BBC’s “Misery Bear” in support of charitable organization, Comic Relief- they encourage people to “do something funny for money” on March 18 (aka Red Nose Day in the UK). In regards to the whole schtick, Moss said: “I am always really happy to get involved on red nose day and it was an honour to work with Misery Bear. Comic Relief is a fantastic charity and is close to my heart.”

Watch Moss as she laughs and flirts with the cuddly bear; however once she invites him upstairs for a little hanky panky, poor Misery Bear is left with a fright when he discovers that he’s Moss’ crazy love obsession!

Now Moss turns from funny to fashionable in her ad for Dior Addict Lipstick. This extended 90-second commercial follows Moss as she gets ready for and arrives at Dior’s S/S 2010 show. Swarmed by paparazzi, the model makes her way inside and then mingles with the high fashion crowd post-show. Rumors are swirling that Galliano was cut out from the clip, but that seems only natural given his recent firing from the fashion house.

A statement was just released from former Christian Dior Couture designer, John Galliano by his law firm Harbottle & Lewis explaining the accusations he’s facing and apologizing for the anti-semetic words he uttered. Due to these events Galliano was ousted by the fashion house.

“Since the events of last Thursday evening I have not been able to make any public comment on what took place based upon advice from my French lawyer. However, given the continuing delays at the French Prosecutor’s Office I should make my position clear.

I completely deny the claims made against me and have fully co-operated with the Police investigation.

A number of independent witnesses have given evidence and have told the Police that I was subjected to verbal harassment and an unprovoked assault when an individual tried to hit me with a chair having taken violent exception to my look and my clothing. For these reasons I have commenced proceedings for defamation and the threats made against me.

However, I fully accept that the accusations made against me have greatly shocked and upset people.

I must take responsibility for the circumstances in which I found myself and for allowing myself to be seen to be behaving in the worst possible light. I only have myself to blame and

I know that I must face up to my own failures and that I must work hard to gain people’s understanding and compassion. To start this process I am seeking help and all I can hope for in time is to address the personal failure which led to these circumstances and try and earn people’s forgiveness.

I have fought my entire life against prejudice, intolerance and discrimination having been subjected to it myself. In all my work my inspiration has been to unite people of every race, creed, religion and sexuality by celebrating their cultural and ethnic diversity through fashion. That remains my guiding light.

Anti-Semitism and racism have no part in our society. I unreservedly apologise for my behaviour in causing any offence.”

With their show for Paris Fashion Week being this Friday, Dior sure has their work set out for them… According to WWD, the fashion house has cut all ties with and fired star designer, John Galliano. These actions, according to the house, are to go into effect immediately.

Dior’s president and chief executive officer, Sidney Toledano said, “We unequivocally condemn the statements made by John Galliano which are in total contradiction to the longstanding core values of  Christian Dior.” This comes just one day after a video of Galliano professing his love for Hitler went viral on the internet and a few days after he was accused of verbal assault and anti-Semitism by another couple. Additionally, actress Natalie Portman, a face for Parfums Christian Dior, has publicly denounced Galliano and disassociated herself from him.

But like all things, the show must go on and according to WWD, it is believed Dior will present this Friday in Paris.

Luxury couture house Christian Dior has suspended designer John Galliano after an altercation at a Parisian cafe where he allegedly said anti-semetic remarks to a couple at the establishment. The brand does not tolerate any racism or anti-semticism and has officially placed Galliano on suspension. Galliano’s lawyer, Stéphane Zerbib says the couturier “expressly denies” these charges.

According to WWD, “under French law, anyone found guilty of making an anti-Semitic comment could be liable to a more than two-year prison sentence, Zerbib said. However, such cases typically result in financial compensation being imposed by a court.” As well, “the police source said that Galliano, who was eventually released, had an alcohol reading of 1.01 milligrams of alcohol per liter of exhaled air.”

I’m thinking once the charges and allegations against the designer are resolved he’ll promptly return to work. However, the fashion industry is left wondering what’s going to happen when its time for Dior to present their F/W collection in early March?

With babies on the way from major fashion noteworthies, Rachel Zoe ,Victoria Beckham, Marion Cotillard and Kate Hudson, I have to stop and ask myself…How are they going to dress these high fashion tots? I mean children’s fashion (which isn’t just for kids), has flown to new levels thanks to celeb babies like Suri Cruise and the Jolie-Pitt bunch. But are fashion houses going a little overboard dressing tots? I mean, kids grow super fast and aren’t exactly the cleanest, so why spend oodles of cash on their clothes? I was a little shocked to find baby Burberry jackets, Dior bibs and bottles, and Junior Gaultier clothes for pre-school aged tots. Really?...A baby in Dior? What happens when the kid spits up all over their fashionable bib? My mom would probably just use Tide, but I’m sure a nanny gently washes all this prized kiddy couture.

I really don’t know what to make of a world where there are kids dressing better than me and probably leading more exciting lives. Seriously, where are these pint-sized socialites jetting off to that they need to be dressed so fancy? Not to mention kids grow insanely fast, so these clothes don’t have anywhere near them same life cycle as adult-sized designer goods. Besides, I’m sure a hand me down Dior bib is considered so passe.

And baby Fendi shoes..? Uhhh…..let’s just say when I was kid, my shoes were anything but fancy. This whole baby couture situation doesn’t get any better with Burberry knickers (that’s what Brits call underwear). I’m sure we’re thinking the same thing here…the horror of a baby pooping in their Burberry bottoms. I’m not who would be more embarrassed the mom or the baby?….Actually it’s the mom, these babies don’t know what’s going on, nor do they know or care what Burberry is.

I guess with so many celebs getting knocked up this year, these baby goods may actually fly off the shelves. Would you dress your kid in couture or would you opt for some goods from your local Target?
