Last time I wrote about actress Olivia Wilde, I couldn’t help but notice how awkwardly young she looked on the cover of Glamour. Well Marie Claire got the hint and put her on their latest cover and she looks fabulous!

There’s something so chic and sultry about the editorial titled “Wilde at Heart” shot by Tesh. I love the dresses pulled by stylist Alison Edmond. There is definitely an old Hollywood glamour vibe going on. I mean how amazing does Wilde look in the shot above as she stands rooftop on a ladder and her dress romantically blows in the wind!?

Pink, yellow, blue, green, or plum…where the magical color wheel lands is all up to you, err, rather in this case fashion editor Isabel Dupré. Unlike Tyra Banks, Dupré doesn’t need magic to make an electric shoot come to life. For Marie Claire‘s August issue, the magazine jumps ahead a season by featuring warm looks in exotic colors that are normally reserved for spring/summer.

After seeing this editorial and all of the hot fall ad campaigns, I’m getting excited for autumn fashions!

Retouching, now more than ever, is a hot button issue for the fashion industry. Some celebrities and models are choosing to go un-retouched for magazine editorials, while others have approved un-retouched images for release. Taking the topic to another level, new legal initiatives in France and the UK are requesting that retouched photos be labeled. While those initiatives will probably not turn into law, media awareness around the retouching subject has expanded.

“People are speaking about retouching more and more for good reason—because they’ve had enough,” Dr. Linda Papadopoulos, a reader in psychology at London Metropolitan University, told WWD . “There is study after study that shows women, when exposed to unrealistic images, feel bad about themselves. The objectification of the female form has gone so far that we’re not actually really objectifying it purely anymore. We’re objectifying a fantasy of the female form,” Papadopoulos continued.

Body image is another issue coinciding with retouching. We don’t think computer fixes will fully disappear, but perhaps it will be toned down and that’s why the industry has begun to embrace more full-figured models. Are they trying to create a more realistic representation of a magazine’s female audience? Possibly. Already staying ahead of this curve, supermodel Claudia Schiffer recently graced the cover of Elle French au natural. Also, hopping on this trend is Jessica Simpson on the May cover of Marie Claire with an un-retouched face.

This brings us to the question: Will more un-retouched and natural looks be in our magazine future?

The April issue of Marie Claire features a radiant Heidi Klum in a pastel blue dress that was created specially for the shoot by Project Runway contestant Anthony Williams. The dress was part of the show’s, “Marie Claire April Cover Challenge,” where fashion hopefuls had to create a stunning cover look for the super model. Williams came out on top with his blue wonder. The focal point of the dress are the folds in the front, which start on the right shoulder and become dramatized as they descend. He won the challenge and didn’t have to say Auf Wiedersehen to his fellow contestants just yet. Although, fans will have to wait and see just how far Williams makes it in the seventh season of this beloved competition.

Marie Claire’s ‘The Making of a Cover Dress‘ editorial

They say when you fall down, that you just have to get back up again. Well, Karlie Kloss‘ “falling” January 2010 Vogue Italia cover, shot by Steven Meisel, launched her into fashion fame. Having conquered the runway by working up to thirty shows a season, Kloss and Meisel made editorial history with the cover.

So what has Karlie been up to since the big cover? Besides jet setting across the globe for fashion weeks, she has graced the cover of Vogue China, starred in a few Vogue [America] editorials and is the face of Hermes, Oscar de la Renta, Dior, Sonia Rykiel for H&M in their recent advertisements. Oh, and she’ll also be on the cover of W Korea’s 5th Anniversary issue — not too shabby for a girl who never thought she’d become one of the most sought after models in the world. We’ll be keeping our eyes on Karlie Kloss, it doesn’t look like she will be falling anytime soon!
