The devastation that occurred in Tokyo after last year’s earthquake and tsunami affected everyone, including the fashion industry, which left many designers unable to show their collections.

But now it appears as if Tokyo and Japan Fashion Week are coming back with help from Mercedes-Benz. Fashion week organizers and the company have signed a “multi-year agreement with Mercedes-Benz who has sponsored New York’s collections since 2001.” According to WWD, head of sales/marketing and vice president of Mercedes-Benz Japan Kintaro Ueno called the Japan collections the “greatest” in Asia. In a press release he said “Fashion and automobiles are similar in that they are both a “way to express your own sense of style’” and we couldn’t agree more!

The next show will start the week of October 13th and has been renamed “Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Tokyo.”

First it was Natasha Poly who was caught posing in front of a Gucci themed Fiat and now Jessica Stam stars in a video for Mercedes-Benz. While Poly was photographed for Fiat by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, Mercedes, a global Fashion Week sponsor, opted for a racier approach by hiring Terry Richardson to get consumers rev’d up over the sultry Stam. The short video below shows Stam stealthy maneuvering through a warehouse in search of the silver sports car. What happens when she finds it? She does what any girl who’s been searching for misplaced car in a parking lot does- she gives it a big hug. But instead of getting in the car, she lays down next to it.

I don’t know if it’s fashion moving towards the car industry or vice versa, but there’s a sleuth of fashion’s heavy hitters getting behind the wheel for luxe auto brands. Along with the aforementioned ads above, Volkswagon has enlisted Karl Lagerfeld to shoot a new ad campaign (will Baptiste ride shotgun?) and Rolls Royce has hired Rankin to create a commemorate photo series for the 100th anniversary of the automobile, Spirit of Ecstasy. We clearly haven’t seen the last of fashion and the automotive industry colliding.

That is if you are fashionable enough…

With exactly one week until the start of New York Fashion Week we can’t help but excitedly stress over what to pack and wear for our first time in the freezing cold. And now Rachel Zoe‘s former assistant, Brad Goreski has just added added an extra ounce of pressure/importance to the pieces we choose to rock!

According to The Cut, if Goreski finds that you embody “fresh, creative design looks and alluring appeal,” he may just put you into a brand new Mercedes and take you to your next show, appointment or destination! Mr. Goreski along with a team of “Fashion Enforcers” will be looking for stylish people worthy of a free car ride, which totally beats a taxi any day! The even cooler part…Some of the lucky chosen ones will get to attend a “culmination event” in the Mercedes-Benz Star Lounge located within the tents.

Not going to lie, I will be rocking my chicest outfits with my eyes on the lookout for Brad!

Moving from the tents at Bryant Park over to Lincoln Center is more than just a minor adjustment, it’s a whole new show. Gone are the images of huge black Mercedes-Benz tents with groves of fans in front, and IN are the days of a fresh statuesque emblem for NYFW.

According to WWD, “The Lincoln Center shows will feature four main venues: The Theatre, The Stage, The Studio and The Box Presentation Space. The Theatre venue, with an all-black interior, will have seating for 969 people and the option for a straight or U-shaped runway. The Stage venue, in white with gray carpeting, can seat 740, with stadiumlike bench seats. The Studio will be the smallest runway venue, for 369 people in its gray environment, and The Box space is designated for presentations and events, with an ability to accommodate 125 people.”

The huge facade between The Met Opera House and the Koch Theatre was constructed by design firm, Diller Scofidio + Renfro. Their rendered image above gives us a glimpse of what NYFW will look like from here on out. We can’t wait until the fun begins!
