Roberto Cavalli’s adorable childrenswear line brings chic style to a whole new age group. The aesthetic of the brand shines through in the usage of leopard print elements, striking dresses, and embroidery. The children look like mini, more playful versions of the ideal Cavalli man and woman. The brand stated, “the young wardrobe is full of joy and optimism with a luxury designer essence.”

Although the garments are definitely polished, they still look fun and comfortable enough to allow for kids to be kids. It is pleasing that Cavalli seems to put a great deal of consideration into these childrenswear designs and the attention to detail is reflected in the effortless appeal of these garments. The leopard trim on denim pieces such jeans, shorts, and jacket, is too cute to be ignored and the print on several pieces is so sophisticated but works shockingly well on some delightfully cute little girls. Cavalli has ensured that the tikes that prance around in his childrenswear will surely be the talk of the playground.

While we love modeling trio Mariacarla Boscono, Natasha Poly, and Karen Elson we don’t love how much Photoshop work went into the after effects on these images by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. The ad campaign is whimsical and beautiful, but it’s hard support the images after seeing the behind-the-scenes coverage.

Juicy did a fine job casting Raquel Zimmermann, the problem is we’re more excited by her blond hair then we are the plaid clothing. Hiring Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin as photographers on the shoot didn’t save them either. We’re hoping next season Juicy brings us something a little more creative than just a pretty model in front of a wind machine.

Denim is one of those staple pieces that should be easy to feature since it’s worn year round, well 7 For All Man Kind missed the memo on that. The denim brand cast big time models Angela Lindvall and Sam Webb to be shot by photog duo Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. Too bad they selected shots that all feel the same, no variety or excitement in the campaign at all. The only good aspect is the natural lighting, which is always a win in our book.

Valentino’s ads aren’t bad, but we don’t find them super exciting either…they lie somewhere in between. The problem seems to be with the dark shadows and light colored clothing. Don’t get us wrong, we like David Sims‘ photography, we’re just not fans of how the garments are being displayed in some of the shots. Call us crazy, but in order to want to buy clothes we need to see them.

What are three statuesque women with flowy dresses doing hanging out in the woods? No they’re not witches, they are models starring in Roberto Cavalli’s F/W 2011 ad campaign. Although, Karen Elson did say “there’s something very haunting and  bewitching about the girls…and there’s a definite mystery and fantasy about the campaign” in the behind-the-scenes video below.

The “girls” she’s referring to are model pals Natasha Poly and Mariacarla Boscono.  The witchy women were shot in the woods by famous photographer duo Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.

While I enjoy how the campaign embraces the hues of autumn, the excessive retouching done after the shoot is what gets my attention the most.  You’ll see that the leaves are actually green on most of the plants and the girls appear more lively, rather than witchy. I really like the campaign, but after seeing the video next to the final shots you see the real magic of photoshop in the fashion industry.

Anytime I think of a model falling mid catwalk, I’m immediately reminded of that one “Sex and the City” episode where Carrie totally eats it on the runway. Although in Bradshaw’s defense, she wasn’t an actual model…so when real models fall while strutting their stuff, part of me is humiliated and the other part of me is equally entertained. I mean, I love, love Lindsey Wixson but how hilariously horrible was the tumble (or “tumbles” if you wish) she took? And so I present to you our Model Monday, Katie Fogarty…but first (and most importantly) a video:

I can’t help but wonder what she was thinking…perhaps Try and walk, try and walk..Ohmaaahgod Muiccia Prada is going to killl me. Okay, I’ll stop, I do actually feel bad for her…but not that bad because since her fall, her career has only risen. Known for her fair skin, precious pout and large eyes Katie has graced covers, starred in editorial and campaigns such as  Class by Roberto Cavalli Ad Campaign Spring/Summer 2011.

Considering Roberto Cavalli is known for his rocker chic, iconic leopard, and the over embellishment of his pieces, I was surprised to see his latest Resort collection for Just Cavalli…to appear a little well, drab. According to WWD, the designer “played with a Sixties-inspired rockabilly mood for resort, delivering a super young and contemporary lineup.”

That being said, I felt it’s almost as though the pieces shown could be found at Forever 21. I am all for simplicity, but the Just Cavalli collection appeared to be boring and lackluster in comparison to previous presentations. The closest item to Cavalli’s classic aesthetic  was a leopard bubble dress and even that lacked pizzaz… His other looks included basic pants in electric blue and camel as well as a cropped tuxedo jacket…which I can definitely buy at the mall…for way less.

Everyone knows, or at least everyone says, the most beautiful people are located in the romantic city of Paris, France. Well, proof is in the pudding with Parisian male model, Clement Chabernaud, who is in fact very beautiful. According to New York Magazine, Chabernaud was born in Paris in 1989 and broke into the modeling scene around 2005, becoming an exclusive muse for Jil Sander and photographer, Willy Vanderperre around 2006. It’s no wonder he’s friends with Karl Lagerfeld’s muse Baptiste Giabiconi.

Mr. Chabernaud has been featured in a multitude of magazines like Arena Homme +, Zoo, V Man, Número Homme, Details, W, Fantastic Man and GQ Style UK. As previously mentioned he was the face of Jil Sander, and in 2009 became the face of Roberto Cavalli; he was also the face of Prada’s Pre-Fall ad campaign in 2010. He’s most noted for his striking baby blues and jutting jaw bone. Even though Chabernaud is a very established model, he’s only 21 years old, and his career continues to be on the rise!

Milan Fashion Week wrapped up it’s festivities with the AmfAR Auction at art space La Permanente in Milan on Tuesday. According to WWD guests included Dean and Dan Caten of DSquared2, Tommaso Aquilano and Roberto Rimondi with Gianfranco Ferré’s CEO Michela Piva, Leona Lewis, and models Alessandra Ambrosio, Chanel Iman and Heidi Klum.

However, the knock-out look of the night went to model Erin Wasson. For the night she swapped her Bohemian aesthetic for a more vampy and chic look as she dawned straight hair, burgundy lips, and a Roberto Cavalli halter gown.

We’re accustomed to seeing celebrities land international ad campaigns, but are their famous faces overshadowing the brands they were hired to represent? Answer: Take a look at who’s starring in the fall 2010 campaigns — models. It would’ve been a complete win for the modeling industry if Dolce & Gabbana didn’t pick Madonna for another season of eyewear. Many celebs think of campaigns and brand endorsement deals as a big pay day; however models look at the job in a different light which is why they’re unrecognizable faces can be used again and again to interpret a brand’s vision.

Creative Director of Gucci, Frida Giannini spoke with WWD about this very issue. “I think it’s a very contemporary approach. The other issue with celebrities is that they are characters who are often associated with a certain film. I prefer a strong, generic face that’s not related to any world — whether that be music or Hollywood” she continued. Gucci is set to bring on the stunning Raquel Zimmermann for this fall’s campaign.

Roberto Cavalli is working with supermodel Gisele Bündchen for their F/W ads. Eva Cavalli told WWD, “It’s easier to transform models, and I think they interpret the clothes better — especially the more seasoned ones. It’s not only a question of beauty, but of character. We used Sasha Pivovarova, for example, in the Just Cavalli ads, and in front of the camera she is amazing and totally transforms”

Instead of using famous faces for no reason, perhaps collaborations will occur more sparingly and make more sense for both designer and celebrity. Only the future will tell.
