How did you decide to start a blog? And where did the idea for its name come from?
I basically started a blog without thinking how I wanted it to look like or even what the contents would be, I just wanted an outlet where I could write about my day or even express I felt freely without anyone judging me. As far as the name goes, EWWITSNIKKI has always been my account name for a few social networking sites, etc. and I didn’t want to have a bunch of accounts that have different names because I’m such a forgetful person. Even my passwords are all the same! Haha! 

Are you a full-time blogger or can you tell us about your 9-5?
I won’t necessarily say that I’m “full-time” when it comes to blogging, because I don’t find it equivalent to an actual job. Rather, I’d say that blogging to me is almost like an escape where I could relax and share my insights & interest with those who are willing to share it with me. As for my “9-5,” I’m actually just a full time fashion merchandising student, as well as a freelance makeup artist and I’m also currently interning at a local boutique this semester.

What is your perfect or ideal weekend like?
I’m such a laid back person that I don’t even really like going out as much. I just love to bum out in my sweats, a huge t-shirt with my hair all scrunched up with a huge bag of baked jalapeno chips on my hand, while watching movies or even a marathon of Dexter, CSI or anything on the History Channel. And, if that doesn’t do it, I’d probably have to go with heading to LA to hang out with my boyfriend that I hardly get to see.

How did you decide to start a blog? And where did the idea for its name come from?
I decided to start I Heart Heels a few years ago as a hobby and a way to express my thoughts. It’s sort of my online journal and a way for me to record all of my favorite fashion musings in one spot. I love writing and being creative, not to mention fashion, so starting a blog has been an amazing, therapeutic experience for me. And I love sharing my favorite things with others! I wanted to come up with a name that I thought every girl could relate to, and judging by what I’ve seen, most girls I know are obsessed with heels!

What is your perfect or ideal weekend like?
I think a weekend of shopping with my family combines all of my loves at once (um, and throw in an afternoon at the spa). That sounds like fun to me!

How did you decide to start a blog? And where did the idea for its name come from?
My vision for The Vogue Vibes was born last September during New York Fashion Week during the Betsey Johnson S/S 2011 show. As her designs took to the catwalk, I was completely taken with the eclectic musical accompaniment. Whether it was The Beatles or LCD Soundsystem, I tried to take a mental note of each song so that I could compile my own play list. It then occurred to me that this is something I would love to do for every fashion show I attend. In my eyes, the runway music is an essential and should fit the show as the designs do the models! A fashion show’s music often goes unacknowledged by most areas of the press and I would love to be the person to bring it to the forefront and dissect the song selection.

Along with that concept came an even bigger realization about about the relationship between the two things I love most, fashion and music. Whether it was The Strokes playing Tommy Hilfiger‘s fashion week after-party at the Metropolitan Opera or legendary music/style icons such as Diana Ross or Mick Jagger, it seemed as if the fashion and music world were constantly colliding. Considering the blogosphere is completely over-saturated with your “run of the mill” fashion blogs, I knew that I had found a niche and that my knowledge of fashion and music would set me apart.

When it came time for me to decide on a name for my fashion and music website, I knew I’d have to find something which would encompass both themes. I decided on The Vogue Vibes for a few different reasons. Some people assume that “vogue” is in reference to Vogue magazine, however, while I do worship the bible of fashion, the word vogue on its own is truly dynamic. As an adjective, it means both fashionable and current, which is how I like to keep my site’s content! As a verb, to “vogue” or “vogueing” was a culture which fundamentally means to move to music in the style of models on the catwalk. Lastly, I’m an old soul of sorts and love to write about older styles of fashion and music to help bring them back “en vogue”. The term “vibes”, always makes me think “music” but is also defined as “the atmosphere of place as communicated to and felt by others.” In addition to the alliteration with “vogue”, the two words seemed to work in perfect harmony! Thus, The Vogue Vibes was born!

Are you a full-time blogger or can you tell us about your 9-5?
I am currently a student at The New School studying Media Studies and Journalism. I also work for a web development company which enabled me to design and build my website from scratch, as well as harness some very valuable social media techniques. Its kind of geeky but I have a perfectly optimized website which has done wonders for its success.

When I am not working or studying, I dedicate a substantial amount of time to my website and my two greatest passions, fashion and music of course! Whether it’s writing about either subjects, attending a fashion show, going to a concert, or conducting an interview, I am constantly seeking a good story for my site. Luckily, there is no shortage of material in New York City! It can definitely be tiring but nothing motivates you like doing what you love! The Vogue Vibes to help me segue into freelance writing for both fashion and music publications, as well as do some brand consulting. I am also working on honing in on my musical tastes to pursue DJing. In addition to admiring the craft for many years, the notion of setting my own soundtrack for a party or other occasion seems natural as I’m always concocting play lists and experimenting with different genres of music.

What is your perfect or ideal weekend like?
Thanks to New York City, I am fortunate to have many ” ideal” weekends as its basically a mecca of all things I love. I would like (hope) to have an early start each day alone at a cafe with an iced coffee, writing on my laptop, and reading a newspaper.�It would be awesome to eventually spend the afternoon shopping at boutiques or exploring one of the many weekend markets. I love going to flea markets to dig for rare gems whether it’s clothing, jewelry, vinyl records, or antiques. My favorite part about shopping is the hunt! During the evening I would love to start with a great dinner with family or friends and follow that with a party, concert, or some other NYC-happening!

How did you decide to start a blog? And where did the idea for its name come from?
I started my blog back in March 2009. Since my core educational background is in journalism and I didn’t end up pursuing it as a career, blogging is a great creative alternative. Inspired by other bloggers and wanting to maintain a personal style diary that I could re-visit ten years from now (and laugh at), I decided to start Style with Benefits. Initially though, my twin sister, Melanie of Wrecked Stellar, and I were going to start a joint blog. But the hardest part was agreeing on a name! Melanie ended up creating her blog first and then shortly after, I started mine. The idea behind its name is pretty simple — Style with Benefits aims to show style that’s good for you. Guess you can say that’s my blog’s unofficial tagline. I wanted a name that communicated this message in an easy and direct manner.

Are you a full-time blogger or can you tell us about your 9-5?
Ah, I wish! For my 9-5 job, I’m a Senior Account Executive at a large PR agency supporting media relations on behalf of a corporate client. So when PR folks pitch me, I definitely understand where they’re coming from and can relate to what they’re doing for their clients. It’s interesting (and nice) to be on the other side for a change!

What is your perfect or ideal weekend like?
I’d kick off my perfect weekend by going to a sporting event. I’m a huge college basketball fan, so I’d likely spend the day at a game. Afterward, I’d head to my favorite band’s (have too many favorites to list!) concert and then dance the night away. I’d end my weekend by relaxing at the beach with friends or spending it at the spa. Throw in a massage, dinner at my favorite Italian restaurant, and finding out I won the lottery (a girl can dream), and my weekend would be amazing!

I started blogging because I missed connecting with other women through fashion and wanted an outlet to build those relationships and push myself to really explore my personal style. Some bloggers get started and go crazy buying new clothes to stay on trend, but I did the opposite and got creative with what I already had. I’m just a regular girl with a love for great style, regularly sophisticated you could say, and that’s where Ordinarily Urbane came from. It reflects not just my personal style but also the idea that everyone can have fun with their style regardless of their budget, size or point of view.

Are you a full-time blogger or can you tell us about your 9-5?
Nope! In addition to my blog I am a fashion marketer and freelance stylist. While living in New Orleans I co-founded NOLA Fashion Week and a clothing swap business, Ruffian Swap, while running an online marketing company. Since moving to Los Angeles last month I’m currently looking for full time opportunities in the fashion industry here.

What is your perfect or ideal weekend like?
After sleeping in and slowly enjoying a cup of coffee I would head out to the park or beach with my husband and our pups. We’d spend the afternoon in the sun exploring a new place and do a little driving with the convertible top down listening to our favorite new album. That evening I’d have dinner at a new restaurant I’d heard great things about and have been wanting to try, then head to the dive bar around the corner from home. Maybe a little yard sale hopping or vintage shopping squeezed in there, too, if the $1 sales were happening that weekend.

Both a vintage lover and fashion blogger, like us, you’re probably thinking what’s not to love about Penelope? Well, for this edition of Weekend Read we dive into the world of Penelope. Actually, her real name is Chanelle Laurence and she sells a rad selection of vintage duds over at Penelope’s Vintage and her blog The Penelope Times documents her savvy street style and playful antics. Come along as we meet the vintage and fashion maven.

How did you decide to start a blog? And where did the idea for its name come from?

It all started when I was 19 or 20, which was around 2006 or 2007, and I started a blog about my life (still there). At that time we were going out in LA all the time, we like to call them the “Cinespace days”, and there was much entertainment to be shared. In 2009 I started a online vintage clothing store called Penelope’s Vintage, transitioned my blog over to Tumblr and made the blog for my store + any sort of fashion news I enjoyed. This is where the name “The Penelope Times” comes in. Cut to last August, my blog did a 180 and I made it completely personal with a mix of outfit posts and anything that inspires me or that I find interesting. I’ve been at it ever since. I like to think of the name as my alter ego now.

Are you a full-time blogger or can you tell us about your 9-5?

I work for my pops for the funds and am a professional dancer as well. When I get home I blog and run my store. It’s crazy busy, but I love it.

My take: modernly vintage with an inconsistant twist or from the help of my friends:  innovative, cultured, thrifty, eclectic, and confident.

What is your perfect or ideal weekend like?

A little happy hour, a pool party with music and friends, hanging out with my boyfriend and doggies, some dancing and lots of going out to fabulous dinners.

How did you decide to start a blog? And where did the idea for it’s name come from?
I actually decided to start a blog on a whim during one summer in college. My friend Cindy showed me Lookbook.nu and from there I discovered personal style blogs. I became such an addict that she finally encouraged me to start one. I was so inspired that I seriously stacked my chemistry books on top of each other to create a makeshift tripod! Thank God for self timer, right?

I recently re-launched my blog because I wasn’t satisfied with the direction it was going in. There were quite a few things I wanted to incorporate and of course, I started making outlines. (Fact: I’m an outline-Excel-Post it lover.) Fashion has helped me come a long way and I want people to see that. It’s about embarking on a journey of finding myself and documenting my experiences. As for the name, ‘A Rainy Melody’ is mix of my screen name in high school and a random title song I came across. I thought it sounded really cute and I just love the sound of rain….just not being in it!

Are you a full-time blogger or would you like to tell us about your 9-5?
That would be so cool if I was a full-time blogger! I admire those who fully dedicate themselves to their blog because sometimes people forget that blogging is also hard work. I can’t imagine all the thought and work that goes into each post. I think I’ll live vicariously through them instead!

My story goes something like this: I’m actually from Northern California and now transplanted in New York City. Throughout college I thought I was aspiring to be a pediatric nurse. Surprisingly enough, this major career change is a result from starting my own style blog. Doors of opportunities opened up and I began meeting wonderfully inspiring people (even one of my role models, Eva Chen from Teen Vogue!) who gave me the same advice: do what you love and be passionate about it. And honestly, that’s exactly what I did. I pushed myself to get out of my comfort zone and explored a new environment. Being in New York is certainly testing my capabilities and I can tell you that I’m learning new things all the time.

Sum up your personal style in 5 words or less.
Whenever someone asks me this question, I’m positive I look like a mini deer caught in headlights. I would say that it depends on what I feel like that day, but I do gravitate towards certain looks. My friends would say I’m girly with some edge. I love being comfortable in whatever I’m wearing because it gives me self-confidence. I’m dressing for myself and if I like it, then I’m going to wear it.

Lastly, what is your perfect or ideal weekend like?
My ideal weekend would have to begin with either brunch (omelettes, please!) or dim sum with wonderful company. I love laughing and there’s always more than enough of that with my friends!
