Geek Chicness at Dsqaured2
If the old saying “Simplicity is Best” holds any truth, the Dsquared2
RTW Spring 2011 shown at Milan Fashion Week confirmed it. The look for the models was a more simple one in comparision to other over the top makeup choices seen that week according to WWD
. Makeup artist Gordon Espinet said of the look, “It’s geek chic.” Using M.A.C
cosmetics, faces were made matte and eyes were stained with a new dark shadow (out later this year) to create the effect of a woman who’d been working in front of her computer all evening and had smudged her makeup. Lips were coated with pale balm for twist and nails were painted in shades of nude.
The look complemented the season’s collection which has more of an androgynous feel. Pieces in various shades of tan, grey and brown were paired with accessories such as oxfords, thick rimmed glasses and book bags. Hairstylist Sam McKnight left models with messy chignons for a disheveled effect. After seeing the show, we are true believers that sometimes less is actually more when it comes to fashion.
