MyFDB EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Rachel Zoe To Raid The Closet of French Vogue’s Carine Roitfeld?
With good looks, a killer closet, and a hit show, you almost can’t talk about styling without mentioning the impact Rachel Zoe has had on the industry. The stylist-turned-designer gives MyFDB an inside glimpse at her life. Find out whose closet she wants to raid and what comes to mind when she hears the word fruit (hint, it’s not bananas). See how this fashion icon weighs in below.
It seems like you’re everywhere these days from your own show to QVC, so what can we expect to see next from the Rachel Zoe brand?
I’m launching my full lifestyle retail collection next year, which has always been my ultimate dream. It’s going to be a little bit of everything I love…faux furs, incredible leather jackets and great day-to-night trousers—I’m beyond excited! Also, I am in the very early stages of my second book :)
We’re sure your closet is the envy of girls everywhere, but if you had the opportunity to raid someone’s wardrobe who would it be and why?
Do you have any fashion blogs and/or websites that you enjoy reading?
Style.com, Who What Wear, and of course, my website and daily newsletter, The Zoe Report.
Besides the runway, where do you draw your style inspiration?
No matter what, I always always go back to my vintage muses from the late 60s and 70s. Bianca Jagger, Marianne Faithful, Brigitte Bardot…in terms of style, beauty trends and everything they are all amazingly cool and sexy.
Name one piece of clothing you can’t part with for sentimental reasons.
Jewelry for me is the most sentimental thing I own. But if I had to pick something from my closet, it would have to be my first [Hermès] Birkin bag that my husband gave me.
Have you ever had the desire to pursue a career in a field other than fashion?
At one point I wanted to be a psychologist, which is what I majored in at George Washington, but the moment I got my first internship at a fashion magazine, I was hooked and haven’t looked back.
Lastly, what advice do you have for aspiring fashion industry hopefuls?
Intern everywhere and anywhere you can. Work your butt off and learn as much as you can.
Now let’s have some fun! QUICK, Word Association time! Tell us the first thing that pops into your head when you hear:
Runway Marc Jacobs
Los Angeles home
Stiletto Brian Atwood
