DVF Steps Into The Wild Wild West!
With photographers turning into animals, a packed house, and everyone from Anna Wintour and Grace Coddington to Barbara Walters (random, right?) in attendance, Diane von Furstenberg‘s Fall 2011 show reflected the wild wild west on and off the runway! The theme of Furstenberg’s Fall 2011 collection was “American Legends.” This title was centered around a feminine traveler, who “knows who she is, and where she wants to be.” I felt like all the DVF fans in attendance embodied this ideal, especially because all 1200 of them seemed to know who they are and exactly where they wanted to be- the DVF presentation. Entering the theatre for the DVF show was literally a fashion stampede!
Once everyone was finally seated, the runway lit up and the room sparkled with skinny mirrored columns dangling from the ceiling. DVF presented 51 looks in all, which I found interesting, because yesterday she tweeted: ”Clothes are looking great…editing to less than 50 looks for the show is the hardest thing always.” I wonder which piece she couldn’t bear to leave out?
Everything in the collection was fabulous, opening the show was a silk jersey jumpsuit, followed by black leathers, alpaca, wools, silks, and suede pieces. Western inspired accents such as fringe, gaucho pants, and over-sized black bolero hats made it down the catwalk alongside the various textiles. In true DVF fashion, bold hues prints were a staple on the runway. Guests were treated to dresses and coats in clover, poppy, sapphire, and pomegranate. Standout pieces included a dazzling backless red floor-length sequined chiffon gown, the colorful print dress above, and the stylish and colorful wool coats.
I must hand it to DVF for putting together a collection that was very diverse (sheer items, western wear, and risque gowns), yet extremely cohesive. The clothes received a concert of applause and Furstenberg gets extra kudos from MyFDB for swiftly recovering from a terrible ski accident a few weeks ago.
