Oscar Red Carpet: The A-List Earns An “F”
The Oscars mark the close of award’s season and by our tiny best dressed list, it appears celebs decided to go out with a blast of bad dresses! To say I’m disappointed in the red carpet attire is an understatement…I’m still bitter that I bothered to sit through all the arrivals on TV! Clearly these A-listers all failed their style test…
Let’s start with Natalie Portman, who won for her role in Black Swan, but bored me to death with her plum Rodarte gown. Her being preggers is no excuse either! The Mulleavy sisters easily could’ve whipped up something a little more glam, but I have a feeling it was Portman who wanted to keep it simple. However, it was gracious of her to thank Kate and Laura Mulleavy in her acceptance speech, especially with costume design controversy.
Next we have Cate Blanchett, who is an incredible actresses, so I’m saddened see her flub on the red carpet. At first glance this lavender Givenchy Haute Couture gown may seem pretty, but why is there an awkward circle focal point on her upper-half?! My eyes go straight for her chest! What makes the dress feel even weirder are the stiff shoulders and yellow flowers at the top. Yup…this is a total fail.
Doilies beware! You could end up being dyed purple and made into a floral dress. Scarlett Johansson rocked this Dolce & Gabbana number yesterday, and all I can think is that she could’ve wrapped my grandma’s tablecloth around her for a similar effect. Also, where are her accessories? Did she not borrow thousands of dollars of jewels like all the other celebs? The dress and dull hair echo last minute effort for this look!
Now, I would never wear sweats on the red carpet, and I’d definitely rather wear a Scarlett’s table cloth before I even thought of trying on Kathryn Bigelow‘s Yves Saint Laurent cut-out sweatshirt dress. This way too casual outfit is just not acceptable for the glamor of the Academy Awards.
Oh, Amy Adams, I hate seeing bad fashion happen to good people, but what were you thinking with this navy blue L’Wren Scott gown? It covers you up too much and my eyes don’t know where to go…I don’t mean that in a good way either. Between the sparkling dress and the giant emerald jewels, this starry sky nightmare belongs somewhere else- a planetarium perhaps?
Clean up on aisle 7! Hilary Swank‘s glamorous at the top and mop at the bottom gown just had waayyyy too much going on for me. The Gucci Premiere dress makes Swank look like she mopped up the dirty streets off Hollywood before making her way inside the Kodak Theatre for the award’s presentation.
Nicole Kidman usually has great style and I love the colored heels popping out from under her dull white oragami-like Dior Haute Couture dress. But, I’m left perplexed as to why she chose such an awkward silhouette for her statuesque figure? She’s already towering over her husband Keith Urban, so the dress just makes her look that much more out of place.
Rachel Roy hit the carpet in one of her own designs and left me pondering: Why exactly was she there? And why can I see her bra? Don’t get me wrong, I actually do like the colors and simplicity of the dress, I just don’t like the exposed bra and golden cuff accessories- is she hiding that she’s secretly Wonder Woman under there?
Lastly, we have the loud and proud Oprah Winfrey! With the Oscars airing on ABC and Oprah raking in lots of dough for the network, it’s only natural that she gets to present an award, right? Well, all I could see was her enormous chest! This Zac Posen dress was uber-fitted up top and flowy at the bottom, leaving Oprah’s curves front and center for the entire audience.
