Balmain (Finally) Confirms New Designer

Apr 26, 2011 By Amy

Unlike the Dior show, Balmain has finally confirmed a new designer to succeed Christophe Decarnin. The announcement comes as no surprise as the brand is promoting from within and appointing Olivier Rousteing, who previously served as Decarin’s deputy designer, the coveted role of taking over Balmain’s creative direction.

As reported by Grazia UK, “The French designer who has also worked at Roberto Cavalli in Milan for six years obviously has the intimate knowledge of Balmain’s DNA that the job requires and he may well have overseen the label’s latest collection alongside stylist and consultant Melanie Ward, who was also thought to be in the running for the role.”

With a new head designer for Balmain it’ll be interesting to see where the brand veers creatively in the next few seasons. Will Rousteing keep Balmain on the edgy rock & roll path that they are known for? Or will he sparse up the line with new innovations and ideas? Only time will tell!
