The Attack of Louboutin’s Lawyers

Apr 12, 2011 By Amy

First they made international headlines after Yves Saint Laurent allegedly stole their signature red sole design, and now Christian Louboutin is after Brazilian shoe company Carmen Steffens. Clearly Louboutin’s legal team is keeping busy and they’re after Steffens for using a red sole shoe (which does look very similar to Louboutins).

However, in defense to the allegations Carmen Steffens released a statement which reads “since its inception [they've] created a logo in red, called ‘rosette,’” and find it “surprising that another brand is trying to reserve the rights to any color. The tones are not the same, and, as catalogs dating from 1996 can prove, Carmen Steffens shoes contain soles of all colors, including red.”

Now according to WWD, “Louboutin was awarded a registered trademark for its red soles in 2008 by the U.S Patent and Trademark Office, but the complaint is directed only at Carmen Steffens France and no other markets.”

You don’t have to be a genius to realize that 1996 comes before 2008. Although, since Steffens has been using the red soles for long why is this just now coming up? I have a feeling the YSL case put the legal fire in the Louboutin team. So watch out low priced knock-offs of the world, Louboutin is out to get you! I’m sure the Louboutin’s legal team could crush any small brand and really make them see red…as in debt! All red soled copycats should take note!
