Anna Wintour’s Big Eyes On Gay Marriage

May 17, 2011 By Amy

Not being shielded by the oversized dark sunglasses she has become famous for, Anna Wintour lets us see her eyes as she gets serious talking about marriage equality. “Saying I do is as fundamental as having the right to vote” she proclaims in this New Yorkers for marriage equality video. It’s awesome Wintour took the time to film the video for the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), but it’s so strange to see her eyes bulging out on screen like a deer in headlights. Also, I’m surprised they showed footage of Fashion Week at Bryant Park instead of its new home Lincoln Center; regardless it’s all about making a difference and the HRC and Wintour hope this video helps to do so.

“Ms. Wintour is a no-nonsense perfectionist who embraces basic fairness with her trademark elegance and humanity,” said HRC Senior New York Strategist Brian Ellner.  “As the preeminent voice in the global fashion industry and a publishing icon, Anna Wintour represents the best of New York.  She knows the difference between a passing fad and an enduring brand.  Equality is part of the New York brand.”

The Human Rights Campaign has partnered with many influential New Yorkers in a effort to bring awareness to the marriage rights issue. You can watch Wintour’s video and designer Kenneth Cole‘s below.
