Met Gala 2011: The Superbowl of Fashion Is Tonight!

May 2, 2011 By Amy

Tonight’s Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute’s exhibit is going to be one for the history books. Every year fashion’s heavy hitters come in troves to the event, but this year many attendees will be paying tribute to famed designer Alexander McQueen. The exhibit the gala is centered is titled, “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty” and pays homage to past work from the designer. The evening is extra special as McQueen successor Sarah Burton (Kate Middleton‘s royal dress designer) will be in attendance.  I’m sure designers and editors alike will be flocking to Burton to congratulate her on such a monumental creation.

The decor of the ball is inspired by McQueens Fall 2008 collection which was named, “The Girl Who Lived in the Tree.” An enormous tree has been brought in to serve as a centerpiece for attendees.

Dubbed “the Superbowl of fashion” all eyes will be on the Met this evening. MyFDB will bring you a breakdown of our favorite looks tomorrow. Until then check out dresses from last year’s Met ball.
