LVMH CEO Bernard Arnault Emotional Over Dior & Happy For Céline
Arnault and the city of Paris are emotionally attached to the Dior brand, so to see it go through turmoil probably isn’t fun, especially after their whole couture circus. It also turns out Arnault took Galliano’s breakdown to heart, so it’s not shocking he’s been taking his time to announce a replacement.
“I’m surprised that I did not get a call or a word of excuse from him,” he said. “After all that I did for him?”
Poor guy… Good thing he has designers such as Marc Jacobs, Phoebe Philo, Donna Karan (to name a few) to make him proud. Speaking of, Arnault speaks very highly the brand Céline and designer Phoebe Philo.
“It will take time, but [Céline] is on the way,” Arnault says. “Phoebe has the potential. She is doing a style which is completely in line with our time. My daughter Delphine, she’s working at Dior,” Arnault said. “But she wears Céline.”
Céline’s designs are modern and in line with current trends, without being overly extravagant- which is part of their success. Reporter Robin Givhan went on to write, “Arnault, by the way, thinks Céline isn’t expensive—although a starter dress runs $2,000. “You think it’s expensive?” he asks. “It’s not Dior.” No. But still. Bless his billionaire’s heart.
Oh to live in the world where $2k dresses are affordable…alas we can dream. Until then, we’re still waiting to see who’ll be new creative director at Dior.
